Logging drives

How do I log a drive?

Tap Start drive before you pull out and End drive when you park. The start time is saved right away, so the drive keeps going even if you switch apps or Permy closes. Keep your phone down while driving; the supervising adult can start and end drives.

Does Permy grade my teen's driving?

No. Permy logs when you drove and for how long, not how. There are no driving scores, and Permy doesn't track speed, braking or your route. Location is optional and only used to work out sunset and sunrise.

I forgot to start a drive. Can I add it later?

Yes. Tap Add past drive on Home, or + on the Drives tab, and enter the date, start and end time to the minute.

How do I edit or delete a drive?

Open the Drives tab and tap the drive. You can change it or delete it; right after deleting you can tap Undo.

Hours and requirements

How does Permy decide what counts as night?

Permy works out sunset and sunrise for where you drove and uses your state's definition of night, such as "30 minutes after sunset" in some states. If a drive's night minutes are wrong, edit the drive and turn on Correct night minutes.

Why is "credited" time lower than the time I drove?

Some states limit how much practice counts, for example 2 hours a day in Texas or 10 hours a week in North Carolina. Permy keeps every minute you drove and shows which part counts toward the requirement.

Where do the requirements come from?

From each state's official sources, linked in the app with the date they were last checked. Tap the state name on Home to see them. Requirements change, so confirm the current rules and forms with your state's licensing office. Permy is a personal practice tracker and is not affiliated with any state agency.

Your data

How do I move my log to a new phone?

On the old phone, go to Settings › Backup & restore › Export JSON backup and save the file. On the new phone, choose Restore your JSON backup during setup, or use Backup & restore later. A PDF or CSV export is a readable copy, not a backup.

Two parents supervise. Can we both log drives?

Yes. Keep Permy on the learner's phone: any supervising adult can start and end drives there. Add each adult under Settings › Manage supervisors so every drive shows who supervised it.

Can I track two teens?

Permy keeps one learner per phone for now. Each teen can use Permy on their own phone.

My phone broke or was lost. Can I get my hours back?

Yes, if you saved a JSON backup or your iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a computer) includes Permy. Export a backup every few weeks and keep it in Files or iCloud Drive; it takes a few seconds and protects months of practice.

Can an app update erase my hours?

An update doesn't sign you out or move your log anywhere: there's no account, and the log stays in Permy's storage on your iPhone. Deleting the app does remove it, so keep a recent JSON backup from Settings › Backup & restore.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your iPhone. There is no account or Permy server. See the privacy policy.

Permy says the database can't be opened.

Restart Permy first, and don't delete the app; deleting it removes your records. If the message stays, email us.
